Lanterns attempts to wrap this IP in 'gritty realism,' but it merely transplants this structural submission to a Nebraska ranch. The power dynamics are monotonously masculine-centric: a weary mentor, a disciplined mentee, and a local tycoon with a militia. This is cultural laziness, repeating a narrative where power only flows between those who possess the 'tools' or the 'land,' whether in deep space or the countryside.
Most ironically, the conflict is reduced to biometric scans and explosions. When the existential war of superheroes is simplified to 'whose ring has more battery' or 'who can detect a neutron device in a skeleton,' it loses all reckoning with the human condition. It is no longer a game of existential stakes, but a dull showcase of privileged gadgets. This 'reboot' is actually a further castration of the superhero's subjectivity, turning the character into an empty shell objectified by capital and settings.
