Beneath this clash lies a sinister structural violence: most of the oil from Rosebank will be exported. This means the so-called 'national asset' is actually an ATM for global capital, while the public inherits the climate collapse of 250 million tonnes of CO2.
'Energy security' is a textbook weaponized concept. It repackages a pure profit motive into a protective, paternalistic narrative of 'safety.' This mirrors the logic of 'protecting women'—creating a virtual threat to justify the plunder of the environment and the mortgaging of the future. The 3,500 jobs promised by Adura are merely cheap candies for the working class, coaxing them to become complicit in this ecological crime.
Interestingly, while environmentalists have torn a hole in the cultural layer, merely 'urging' and 'writing letters' remains an optimal expression within a rigged system. The real battle isn't whether the PM has a 'change of heart,' but who monopolizes the power to define 'reality.' By defining fossil fuels as a 'vital national asset,' the state has already completed the colonization of the future at the meta-violence level.
