The attempts at Bates College to force "white supremacy" into math curricula are classic missteps of cultural violence: trying to manufacture "awareness" via administrative mandate. This created absurd cognitive costs, providing the far right with perfect ammunition. Such "performative progressivism" failed to narrow the gap between Potential and Actual violence; instead, by manufacturing absurdity, it allowed genuine human rights demands (healthcare, education) to be equated with "left-wing insanity" in the public eye.
What is most alarming is this narrative of "returning to pragmatism." By calling for what is "politically viable," AOC effectively admits that within the current structure of meta-violence, the power of interpretation has shifted heavily toward conservatism. The left is forced to castrate its own expression just to secure a ticket into the public square. This is a fake optimal expression—playing the role of the "rational, moderate" to survive politically in the short term, at the cost of letting truly radical but necessary structural changes be redefined as "unviable."
The sting of this game is this: while we carefully prune our language to avoid the "woke" label, have we subconsciously accepted the definition of "rationality" set by our opponents?
