In the extreme budget model of Ryanair, the aggressive compression of costs means the erasure of safety redundancies. The claim that 'ultrasonic inspections found nothing' becomes a cynical PR shield when faced with a shattered fan blade.
This violence is diffuse. The airline offloads risk onto passengers via low fares; passengers, blinded by information asymmetry, believe they are buying 'cheap convenience' when they are actually entering a probabilistic gamble for survival. The moment engine parts became shrapnel, the window failure ceased to be an accident—it became the inevitable output of a system designed to shave every cent off maintenance.
The most insidious complicity lies in how the narrative shifts toward the warmth of 'passengers saving each other.' This is cultural violence, designed to distract from the core issue: how did the hardware redundancy of a commercial flight drop this low? While the public celebrates human kindness, the architects of the cost model mark this as a 'low-probability event' and continue to optimize profit by gambling with lives.
