The Power Structure of Recipes and Castrated Taste

Standard recipes are the weaponisation of cognitive entries, aiming to erase subjectivity by defining 'correctness'.

The New York Times provides a classic 'standard recipe': 3/4 teaspoon of salt, 1 clove of garlic. This mode of expression is essentially the weaponisation of a cognitive entry. It attempts to transform cooking—an expression based on biological intuition and environmental gaming—into an act of obedience to instructions by establishing an authoritative, quantified standard. It subconsciously tells you that the 'correct' result comes from the precise execution of an 'optimal solution' defined by authority.

However, the comments section reveals the truth of this game. Users complain about too little garlic, tasteless lemons, and insufficient onions. These 'modifications' are actually the reclamation of subjectivity. When a user decides to change 1 clove of garlic to 4, or replaces water with white wine, they are breaking the 'cognitive wall' built by authority, redefining cooking as an existential war—choosing real 'taste' over the authoritative 'standard'.

The irony is that such 'standards' are often written by a specific group holding the power of definition. Their 'appropriate amount' is based on the aesthetics and tastes of a particular class, then packaged as a universal 'correctness'. When you try to make the 'correct' dish according to this recipe, you are essentially performing a disciplined role. The true optimal expression never lies in the 100% reproduction of a recipe, but in how much of your own desire—unpermitted by authority—you dare to throw into the pot.
