Clacton: A Human Zoo for Political Clickbait

Political performance is about seizing the right to interpret, while the costs are borne by the objectified underclass.

Farage has turned Clacton into his personal stage, and the media has turned it into a human zoo. This is more than an election; it is a textbook case of the weaponisation of expression. By manufacturing a narrative of 'persecution,' Farage uses this structurally abandoned town as a cognitive entry point to power. He doesn't care about the homeless or the lack of maternity care; he cares about utilizing the 'phenotypes' of the town—the underclass whites labeled as 'thick and racist'—to perform his role as a savior.

The most insidious part is the linkage of cultural violence. On one side, the right fuels internal strife among the poor through 'migrants stealing resources' narratives; on the other, the self-proclaimed progressive left uses snobbery on social media to mock these 'gullible fools.' In both cases, the people of Clacton are objectified. They are not subjects, but pawns used to validate someone's political correctness or ambition. This dual contempt is a variant of the masculine-centric narrative: the powerful define 'correct' cognition, while the existentiality of the underclass is erased.

When Farage barely mentions Clacton's actual issues in Parliament, he achieves his optimal expression: secure the seat, maintain the persona, and dump the voters back into a reality of potholes and litter. The vox pops cherry-picked by the media are merely backdrops for this scam. The real violence isn't in a few 'Migrants Out' leaflets, but in the structural violence: a place is systematically stripped of resources, only to be used as leverage for a political actor's personal gain.
