Using One Liar's Fantasy to Brand an Entire Race as 'Cheaters'

Weaponizing an individual failure to justify structural erasure is classic cultural violence.

正如文中黑人知识分子所警示的,仅仅追求 representation(代表性人数)而忽视 material change(物质性改变),本身就是一种廉价的 PR 游戏。

Jason Arday fabricated his life and plagiarized; that is individual dishonesty. However, the right-wing press has swiftly scaled this a-typical case into 'proof' that DEI initiatives are eroding academic standards. This is a textbook weaponisation of expression: seizing the interpretative power to turn a specific academic scandal into a cognitive attack on an entire race.

The irony is palpable. Those screaming about 'meritocracy' in Arday's wake conveniently ignore the systemic preference for legacy students in Ivy League schools. In their narrative, the inheritance of privilege by wealthy white students is 'tradition,' while the marginal opportunities granted to Black people via DEI are 'cheating.' This exposes a deep structural violence: the gates of elite institutions have never been about pure merit, but about an invisible network of complicity among white elites. DEI is a mere attempt to crack a window in that wall, and the right is using Arday's lies to weld that window shut.

We must distinguish between genuine progress and performative representation. As Black intellectuals warn, focusing on representation over material change is often just a cheap PR game. But converting this systemic flaw into a collective shaming of Black individuals is a tool of meta-violence. They don't care if Arday lied; they care that they can use his lies to legitimize the preservation of a masculine-centric, white-centric narrative of power.
