Emptying Women's Prisons for Men: A Textbook Case of Meta-Violence

Converting women's prisons to hold men is the ultimate objectification of women to solve a masculine crisis.

Andy Burnham's proposed solutions to the prison overcrowding crisis are a masterclass in masculine-centric narrative. Facing a structural collapse, his "optimal expression" includes accelerating deportations and, most tellingly, releasing female prisoners to convert their facilities into men's jails.

Observe the brutality of this logic: in the cognitive entry point of power, female prisoners are defined as "disposable" or "adjustable" variables. When the system crashes due to the sheer volume of male prisoners, the solution isn't to dismantle the structural violence driving incarceration, but to physically seize the space reserved for women to stabilize the masculine system. This is a spatial raid, reducing women to a resource to be managed for the benefit of men.

Most cynical is the framing of "diverting female offenders" as a progressive move. This is merely cultural violence in disguise. The goal isn't female empowerment; it's to vacate HMP Bronzefield to make room for men. This narrative of "freeing you to make room for him" is pure meta-violence: it ignores the female subject's needs and validates only her utility in solving a male crisis.

Who are the complicit parties? The Ministry of Justice, politicians, and the experts debating "feasibility." They obsess over whether security standards meet the requirements for male prisoners, while remaining silent on the structural violence women face once diverted into the community. In this game, female existence is reduced to a digit used to hedge against male prison pressure. It is a modern iteration of the colonial logic applied to the Primal Race.
