Paying for War Crimes with Financial Hegemony
The Trump administration's sanctions on the ICC are not mere political maneuvering, but a textbook display of structural violence. By leveraging its monopoly over global financial and technological gateways to paralyze the International Criminal Court, the US is effectively redefining 'legality.' In this logic, the pursuit of justice is criminalized, while the commission of war crimes is granted immunity.
This is exactly how meta-violence operates: by seizing the power of interpretation, 'protecting allies' is repackaged as 'national security,' legitimizing the tolerance of war crimes at the cultural layer. When judges, prosecutors, and human rights lawyers cease their practice for fear of sanctions, violence escalates from direct physical harm to the castration of the institution itself. This isn't just about shielding Netanyahu; it's a global announcement that as long as you reside in the 'core of power' defined by the masculine-centric narrative, you can rule others in a hellish manner without consequence.
Sanctioned Palestinian rights groups are the victims of this existential war. Their biological wall is further reinforced—not only through physical imprisonment but through economic and digital erasure. Those 'long-time allies' who cut ties under sanction pressure are part of the complicity. The reward for this complicity is survival; the cost is the death of subjectivity. In such a structure, human rights are reduced to appendages of power, and the 'rule of law' is nothing more than a weapon for the powerful to filter out the dissident.
