The establishment conspires with giants like Chevron and Philip Morris to buy the right to interpret policy, turning democracy into a spoils system for corporate interests. El-Sayed cleverly shifted the narrative from a complex ideological battle to a salient game of tax dollars—moving from the weaponized question of 'the right to exist' to the practical question of 'the right to our money.'
However, we must avoid naive celebration. Groups like Third Way are already prepping for the 'next war,' leveraging the deep-seated meta-violence of the US—a systemic fear of the 'outsider.' To them, the victory of a Muslim immigrant's son is not a triumph of democracy, but a 'bug' in the system that needs fixing.
If the Democrats continue to act as co-conspirators, trying to maintain a bankrupt centrist line by slandering the progressive left, they are merely fueling Trumpism. In an existential war, if you refuse to make room for expressions that actually possess vitality, the space will inevitably be seized by whoever can profit most from the manufacture of fear.
