The 'Cultural Privilege' of Progressives and the Existential War of the Working Class
The so-called 'progressives' within the Democratic party are trapped in a classic identity politics scam. They have turned anti-racism and anti-authoritarianism—abstract cultural expressions—into chips for applause at political rallies. For these college-educated professionals, these expressions are 'identity ornaments,' aesthetic markers used to distinguish themselves from the 'backward,' rather than genuine political demands.
To the working class, this expression is an act of extreme cultural violence. When a high-earning professional adopts a 'savior' complex to demand that laborers 'be kind' or focus on abstract globalist agendas, it is essentially a cognitive colonization. The status of the professional class is portable; they enjoy cheap goods and low-wage immigrant labor in the office towers of New York or London, while the survival of the blue-collar worker is strictly place-bound. This structural decoupling allows the privileged to use 'progress' as a weapon to define 'civilization,' marking those who cannot keep up with the narrative as anomalies in need of moral re-education.
This is an existential war over 'who defines reality.' The professional class uses its control over cognitive entry points to define 'progress' as a correct combination of cultural symbols; meanwhile, the working class defines progress through the instinct of survival—wages, jobs, and community safety. By prioritizing cultural preferences over economic survival, the Democratic party is complicit in maintaining a new class hegemony: using a shell of 'political correctness' to mask the structural abandonment of the lower class's economic rights.
Unless progressivism shifts from 'consuming symbols' back to 'production relations'—moving from 'how to speak correctly' to 'how to distribute justly'—it will remain a performance of self-satisfaction for the elite. The resentment of the working class will eventually become the final bill in this game.
