The De-deification of DeepMind and Commercial Colonization

When scientists exit, AI shifts from a tool for truth to a pure commercial weapon.

当 science-driven agenda 给 way to cold, hard commercial reality,AI 的定义权就从“造福人类”转移到了“投资回报率”手中。

Demis Hassabis's role shift is not a graceful exit for the 'big picture,' but a classic structural swallowing. DeepMind once attempted to maintain the illusion of an 'independent actor' under Google's capital, using scientific purity and ethical promises as a cognitive entry point to attract the world's top minds. Now, that illusion is shattered. Moving from a charismatic founder to a technical character signifies DeepMind's identity transition from a 'research institute' to a 'corporate subdivision.'

This is more than a leadership change; it is the takeover by meta-violence. As the science-driven agenda gives way to cold, hard commercial reality, the power to define AI shifts from 'benefiting humanity' to 'Return on Investment.' More ironically, employees who once protested Pentagon military contracts and voiced concerns over Gaza now face a Google that has completely lost its ethical buffer. The so-called 'human oversight' is merely a cultural shield in the PR version, powerless against the commercial pressure of hundreds of billions of dollars.

The departure of core researchers like Jeff Dean proves the outcome of this existential war: under the absolute reign of commercial logic, scientists are no longer subjects defining direction, but priced resources. Google tries to hedge talent loss with its massive ecosystem (Search, YouTube), but this is essentially using structural violence (resource monopoly) to mask the loss of its explanatory power at the meta level. When a lab is no longer chosen because 'the greatest researchers are here,' it becomes nothing more than a processing plant.
