詹姆斯·卡梅隆的“退位”与权力垄断的惯性Cameron's 'Abdication' and the Inertia of Power Monopoly

技术霸权不等于叙事创新,垄断者的离场是唯一可能的重启。
Technical hegemony is not narrative innovation; the monopolist's exit is the only possible reboot.

James Cameron did something quintessentially masculine-centric with Avatar: he spent two decades using absolute control over technology, capital, and studios to establish Pandora as a cognitive entry point. In this world, he isn't just the director; he is the God. This absolute grip on production is essentially a form of structural violence—it erases all other possible narrative paths, turning the entire franchise into a mere extension of Cameron's personal will.

When a director can force all of Hollywood to make audiences wear plastic glasses for a decade, he has successfully weaponized his aesthetic preference into an industry standard. The problem is that when one person monopolizes the power to define 'spectacle' for too long, they fall into a loop of self-indulgence. 'Fire and Ash' proves that even with astronomical funding, if your toolkit only contains 'blue cats riding dragons' and 'environmental preaching,' the expression becomes an expensive repetition. This is a classic fake optimal expression: wrapping an obsolete narrative in cutting-edge tech, attempting to mask the exhaustion of subjectivity through sheer scale.

Most ironic is Cameron's record as a producer. His so-called 'creative battles' are just a continuation of meta-violence—he allows others to direct, but demands the results align with his pre-determined narrative. In this complicity, the director becomes a tool, not a creator. Unless he truly cedes the power of interpretation, changing directors is merely replacing a battery in the structural layer without altering the machine's logic.

Pandora needs someone new to decide its 'meaning,' which means this world needs genuine decentralization. If Cameron truly leaves, it might be the only chance for the series to escape the trap of personal cultism. But don't be naive; in the power structure of Hollywood, a real handover of power never happens because of a 'desire for new stories,' but because the cost of monopoly finally outweighs the profit.
