厨房里的“成年礼”:一种对暴力美学的浪漫化共谋Kitchen 'Rites of Passage': A Romanticized Complicity in Violence

将职场霸凌包装成“成年礼”,是典型的文化暴力美学 scam。
Packaging workplace bullying as a 'rite of passage' is a classic cultural violence scam.

Dominic Sessa describes verbal abuse and bullying in the kitchen as an 'initiation process' and a 'rite of passage,' claiming there is 'love on the other side.' This narrative is a textbook example of cultural violence: by assigning a sacred, growth-oriented meaning to direct violence, it makes structural violence appear not only acceptable but 'romantic.'

This logic is rampant in the masculine-centric narrative—the belief that men must be abused and broken to earn 'true respect' and 'adult identity.' Sessa's call for 'wilful hardships' to combat comfort is essentially equating self-torture with self-development. In this framework, bullies are mythologized as 'gods' or 'pirates,' while the victims are expected to endure violence as the price of admission into an elite circle.

Ironically, this romanticization of 'toughness' completely erases the actual toxic culture of the culinary world. The movie 'Tony' even deliberately omits Bourdain's suicide, a selective filtering of facts designed to maintain a masculine fantasy of rebellion and authenticity. When bullying is redefined as a prelude to 'love,' the complicity is complete: the victim internalizes the oppression, and the oppressor gains moral immunity.

His desire to 'escape the modern era' for the cigarettes and booze of the 70s is, in reality, an attempt to flee a time that has begun to interrogate power structures and demand just expressions, returning instead to a meta-violence era where everything could be excused with 'that's just how men are.'
