In the current cultural layer, this template has a high exchange rate; by packaging oneself as a 'survivor of adversity,' the system automatically grants a green light, even rebranding obvious academic flaws as 'honest errors.'
This is essentially the weaponization of identity politics. Arday didn't care about the potential of academic truth; he sought the actual acquisition of power seats in an existential war. By manufacturing a false identity of a 'persecuted yet brilliant' figure, he induced Cambridge and its complicitors to perform a self-indulgent PR act: appointing the youngest Black professor in its history. In this complicity, the university didn't need a real sociologist; they needed a symbol to prove their 'diversity' and 'progressivism.' Once the symbol was revealed as a scam, the complicitors swiftly pivoted from 'protecting the victim' to 'safeguarding the reputation.'
The most ironic part is Arday's resignation letter. He is still deploying the same weapons: defining factual scrutiny as 'relentless attacks' and packaging academic fraud as an 'unbearable personal cost.' In the final moment of his subjectivity's death, he attempted to reclaim the power of interpretation by playing the victim once more. But he failed, because when the lies scale to the point of fabricating visiting professorships at Ohio State, his expression no longer holds any bargaining chips.
This farce reveals a cruel logic: within the structure of meta-violence, marginalized identities are sometimes converted by the powerful into cheap entry tickets. When an individual attempts to arbitrage this by forging such an identity, they are actually reinforcing the very violent mechanism that 'labels' humans. He won the fast lane, but lost his actual existence as an academic subject.
