Under this meta-violence, the black middle-class identity becomes precarious—you can lead in the boardroom, yet remain a 'potential intruder' at the elevator.
Even more ironic is how the BLM movement became a weaponized cognitive entry. It created an illusion of representation, allowing some black elites to ascend via 'DEI hires,' but this was largely a performative concession. True structural violence, such as housing bias and systemic poverty, was masked by the narrative of 'Black Excellence.' The elite used this window to consolidate their class positions, a form of complicity that diluted the grassroots struggle.
When black professionals debate 'who is truly black' or seek social mobility through dating, they are merely tweaking their expression to alleviate status anxiety.
