This is a classic Fake Optimal Expression: they don't seek the Actual improvement of governance, but rather a short-term gain by playing roles like 'relatable,' 'healthy,' or 'family-oriented' to seize the power of interpretation on YouTube and Fox News. While RFK Jr. teaches Americans to make salmon cakes, he is manufacturing a pseudo-fact of 'caring for health' to mask the structural violence he fuels as an anti-vaxxer.
Even more sinister is the mechanism of Complicity. Sean Duffy’s show is sponsored by Boeing and Shell—companies his own department regulates. This creates a perfect loop: the regulator trades performance for capital sponsorship, and capital buys a form of political immunity. Driven by Meta Violence, public duty is completely objectified into a commodity called 'influence.'
While these officials are obsessed with constructing their identity politics for the camera, the civilians dying in the 'iceberg lettuce roulette' or the TSA agents losing pay during a shutdown become mere background noise. For these power-holders, if reality doesn't cooperate, they simply redefine it—if governance fails, just film a show to tell the public that you are, in fact, a lovely person who knows how to cook.
