The Performance of 'Not Resigning' and Meta-Violence in Iran's Power Black-Box
This is a classic existential war, but the stakes are not held by President Pezeshkian. When a head of state is forced to use a TV interview to deny trivial claims that he 'threatened to resign,' it is a vivid manifestation of structural violence: his subjectivity has been stripped, and his only remaining function is to serve as an 'interface' for the Supreme Leader's will.
The core of this farce is the power black-box of the 'Supreme Leader.' Khamenei's disappearance after being injured created a massive vacuum of interpretative power. In this void, whoever claims to have 'seen' or 'heard' the Leader's will seizes the weapon of defining reality. Kharazi's resignation rumors are a form of weaponized expression, utilizing information asymmetry to label Pezeshkian as a frustrated, replaceable component.
Pezeshkian's response—'I will stand'—is a fake optimal expression. He attempts to mask his sidelined status by emphasizing 'consensus' and 'harmony.' In a masculine-centric power structure, this 'consensus' is merely a camouflage for meta-violence: it demands that the ruled remain a complicit part of the narrative, pretending 'we are one' while their decision-making power is erased. The so-called 'democratic outcome' is nothing but a thin layer of PR when facing an invisible, apotheosized power.
Most ironically, this internal struggle unfolds against the backdrop of negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz. By labeling the pursuit of peace as an 'unforgivable betrayal,' hardliners are monopolizing the interpretation of national interest. In this narrative, any attempt to reach a consensus through Just Expressions is weaponized as 'capitulation.' This proves once again that under meta-violence, facts are irrelevant; what matters is who defines what the facts are.
