Bodies as Collateral in the Weaponized Narratives of Borders
This so-called 'mass crossing' is a textbook case of weaponized cognitive entry points. The rumors on TikTok and WhatsApp were not random noise, but carefully fed bait, leveraging the desperation of the marginalized to lure thousands to the border. While Morocco blames the 'exploitation of the digital sphere' and Spain points fingers at Rabat, both states are engaged in a power game over who controls the 'order.' Here, the Violence Triangle is stark: the Potential of these youths was a basic human life, but the Actual became corpses or missing persons lists on a border line.
The most repulsive structural violence lies in Spain's rapid 'return' of the majority to appease the Schengen zone. 'Voluntary return' is a scam when faced with starvation and terror; it is merely the state's forced definition of a powerless subject. Those stripped of their right to seek asylum were efficiently erased by the system. It was only when a 12-year-old boy cried on camera, triggering a performative humanitarian empathy, that the machinery of violence momentarily paused. This proves that the 'law' here is not a shield, but a result of an accidental, witnessed gamble.
The meta violence is embedded in the official discourse: they speak of 'pull effects,' 'misinformation,' and 'administrative repercussions.' Behind these sterile, professional terms is a masculine-centric narrative that reduces living beings to traffic data and border pressure indices. In this framework, a mother's anxiety at the border is dismissed as a 'side effect' of a digital hoax. When power monopolizes the definition of 'fact,' the suffering of the bottom layer is rebranded as a statistical inevitability—the ultimate form of meta violence.
