In her logic, a former neo-Nazi with a track record of antisemitic and misogynistic violence can be rebranded as an "anti-extremism expert" and regain a seat of power simply by being "certified" by the Home Office. The cruelty of this narrative lies in centering the perpetrator's "contrition" as the protagonist, while relegating Luciana Berger's trauma—including her "two days of hell" while six months pregnant—to a mere footnote that must be tolerated.
This is not just structural violence; it is blatant cultural violence. When a party uses the term "rehabilitation" to cover for a man who published reams of misogynistic and pornographic material, they are complicit in redefining which crimes are "forgivable." Under the logic of meta-violence, a man's capacity for destruction is viewed as a form of "energy" that, once co-opted by the system, can be laundered into "expertise."
Luciana Berger's outrage exposes the reality of this game: for the perpetrator, regaining candidacy is his optimal expression; for the system, this "tolerance" is a collective gaslighting of the victim. If a system allows a man who weaponized pornography and racial hatred to return to power through PR spin, the system itself is a co-conspirator of meta-violence. It signals to every victim that their pain has zero pricing power in the face of power restructuring.
