The Vinyl Scam: Manufacturing Violence via 'Collectibility'

The so-called 'variant' is merely a structural violence where industrial deadlines truncate artistic integrity.

This is no longer artistic creation; it is a blatant bait-and-switch scam. Labels exploit fan FOMO and the fetish for physical media to push 'unfinished products' into the market at premium prices. In this logic, vinyl is no longer a medium for music but a consumer symbol—a 'blind box' where value is defined by being 'different from the digital version' rather than being complete or superior.

Applying Galtung’s Violence Triangle, this is a textbook case of structural violence. The manufacturing deadline is prioritized over artistic integrity, and this structural void is rebranded as a cultural 'collectible surprise.' When Raye tells fans to 'embrace' these differences, she is effectively asking the victims to enter a complicity, internalizing industrial failure as an aesthetic choice. This is not just consumer exploitation; it is the castration of the artist's subjectivity—where the final form of a work is dictated by a factory's scheduling sheet.

The irony lies in the saturation of 'colored pressings' and 'signed editions.' Labels use these identity markers to mask physical inferiority with cultural complexity. When a fan pays the highest premium only to receive a truncated outro, they aren't buying music; they are buying a priced deception. This manipulation of the cognitive entry point has reached a peak: labels define what is 'complete,' then manufacture 'incompleteness' to double their profits.
