DEET-Free:一场关于“天然”的认知收割 scamDEET-Free: A Cognitive Harvest Scam of "The Natural"

Fear is the cheapest fuel for commercial pricing power, and "Natural" is the most sophisticated weaponized narrative.

这就是 Potential(高效防护)与 Actual(低效天然产品)之间的差额,这个差额就是由资本制造的结构性暴力。

The "DEET-Free" label is not offering a choice; it is constructing a cognitive trap. When a product bolds "Free of XX" on its label, it performs a successful weaponization of expression: it first defines XX as dangerous, then positions itself as the savior. This is a classic commercial scam that seizes the cognitive entry point by manufacturing fear.

In terms of Galtung's Violence Triangle, this is a textbook case of cultural violence. Corporations leverage the instinctive fear of "synthetic chemicals" to stigmatize a gold standard with 70 years of proven safety. This narrative tricks consumers into believing they are pursuing health by choosing "natural" options, while in reality, they are trading actual biological safety (exposure to Lyme disease and West Nile virus) for a fraudulent psychological comfort. The gap between the Potential (effective protection) and the Actual (ineffective natural products) is a structural violence engineered by capital.

The most ironic complicity comes from certain researchers. To secure funding for "botanical alternatives," they manufacture panic through selectively biased papers to justify their own academic projects. This academic complicity commodifies fear, turning consumers into fuel for an interest-driven game.

When people abandon the most effective protection because of a "DEET-Free" label, they lose more than just insect repellency; they experience a death of subjectivity—their decision-making power has been hijacked by a meticulously designed marketing narrative.
