By increasing the cost of survival to deter migrants, she is utilizing a systemic wall to push desperate people into even more dangerous smuggling routes. This “reform” is simply creating a vacuum where power can exercise violence with legal impunity.
This war over borders is a grand act of complicity. Whether left or right, when they speak of “safe routes,” they are actually discussing how to maintain exclusionary mechanisms more tastefully. The gap between the Potential (the right to survive) and the Actual (deportation and death) is the violence deliberately ignored in this political performance.
