The 'Sustainable' Games: A Revamped Scam of Collective Complicity

Defining success through downsizing is a classic scam of redefining reality to mask systemic decay.

Phil Batty hails the 'downsizing' of the Glasgow Games as a phenomenal success. The logic is absurd: slashing sports from 19 to 10, leaving seats empty, and offloading broadcasting to invisible streaming platforms, all while declaring this 'financial sustainability' as the formula for the future. This isn't evolution; it's a dying narrative performing a desperate PR stunt.

Within the Violence Triangle, this is textbook cultural violence. By monopolizing the interpretation, organizers attempt to rebrand 'scale reduction' and 'declining influence' as 'flexibility' and 'fitness for the future.' When they brag about a budget of £162.6m being a fraction of previous Games, they obscure a structural truth: the Actual state of this event has fallen drastically below its Potential. This gap is a form of violence against athletes and audiences—achievements are rendered invisible, and public attention is hijacked by capital transactions (the WBD deal).

This is a masterclass in complicity. Organizers, sport associations, and capital interests have aligned under the guise of 'global viewership' and 'young demographics' to package a collapse in ratings as a 'migration of consumption.' They manufacture a fiction of 'digital transformation,' allowing co-conspirators to nod in agreement within a shrinking circle, pretending this is the new spirit of sport.

The irony is that this 'sustainable' formula is merely a survival strategy: as long as I hold the power to define the terms, as long as I declare 'less is more,' I can never fail. This mechanism of changing the ruler to claim victory is identical to those who redefine GDP when reality refuses to cooperate.
