Cultural Heritage' is often just a rebranding of the monopoly over interpretation by power holders.

This report attempts to frame the eisteddfod as a 'living and fun' celebration of culture. However, if you zoom out, it is a textbook case of capturing the cognitive entry point. From Lord Rhys using patronage to establish class order, to the 18th-century 'revival' led by London elites, and finally to Iolo Morganwg fabricating 'ancient lore' while high on laudanum—the history of this festival is essentially a history of the manipulation of interpretation.

What is most ironic is that this 'tradition' is a weaponized product. Through a curated pageantry, it projects a 'Welsh identity' defined by elites onto the masses. While people celebrate the language as 'living,' they are actually validating a cultural sample redesigned by a power structure. This narrative allows a collective euphoria to mask a form of cultural violence: it uses a 'correct' aesthetic and identity to overwrite truly marginal and non-mainstream expressions.

The 5-meter puppet of Lord Rhys is not 'awakening' history; it is creating a massive symbol that leads participants into a subconscious complicity with old power structures. In this 'Glastonbury on wheels' carnival, individual subjectivity is dissolved into a collective sense of belonging—a feeling precisely calculated by the 'creative directors' who control the narrative.
