The supplement industry weaponizes biological deficiency to seize pricing power through manufactured anxiety.

Most supplements are essentially a scam centered on the concept of "optimization." When people become obsessed with precisely controlling micronutrients via capsules, they are effectively objectifying their own bodies, reducing life to a set of quantifiable data points. This narrative is driven by capital, planting a logic at the cognitive entry point: your natural state is incomplete, and only by purchasing specific "plug-ins" can you approach some ideal, optimized existence.

Most ironically, the supplement industry precisely leverages the biological walls of structurally disadvantaged groups. Take the iron supplementation advice for menstruating women or collagen marketing for specific age groups. It doesn't attempt to solve the structural poverty or the unfair distribution of healthcare resources that cause these deficiencies; instead, it converts this structural violence into a commercial opportunity. It tells women: your fatigue and aging are due to a missing molecule, not because you exist within a structure that extracts your reproductive labor without providing adequate support.

True optimal expression is not about finding security in a supplement checklist, but about reclaiming the power of interpretation over one's own body. When a dietitian suggests diverse real foods over expensive synthetics, they are actively weakening the cognitive monopoly of the supplement industry. The good news here is that this return to biological facts is making people realize that those capsules, packaged as "health essentials," are often just inefficient votes cast by consumers seeking a psychological illusion of control.
