In the official narrative, this is a progressive move to break centralization and boost productivity. However, applying the Violence Triangle, this is merely a spatial displacement of structural violence. When the power of resource distribution shifts from one center to multiple sub-centers without genuine grassroots oversight, it easily evolves into a new field of complicity for local elites. The so-called 'reduction of bureaucracy' is essentially a reduction in the transparency of power, allowing local power-brokers to complete interest exchanges within smaller, closed loops.
More disturbing is how women's bodies are once again marginalized in this masculine-centric game of 'power' and 'efficiency.' The warning from Dame Nicole Jacobs, the domestic abuse commissioner, reveals a brutal truth: services for victims of violence against women and girls (VAWG) risk being ignored in these devolution plans. When budgets are fragmented and accountability is scattered across local authorities, victim-centered services—which require cross-regional coordination and strong central mandates—are more likely to be quietly cut under the guise of 'local autonomy.' This is a textbook operation of meta violence: using the cultural narratives of 'democracy' and 'efficiency' to mask the actual result of structural resource deprivation.
As for Harriet Harman's suggestion to ban men from running for the Labour leadership, this is a 'fake optimal expression.' Attempting to counter a deep-seated masculine-centric narrative through simple gender quotas fails to touch the essence of power and instead provides an entry point for the establishment to frame feminism as 'unjust.' True victory does not come from bans, but from the total dismantling of the masculine complicity structure. If a party still uses 'forgiveness' and 'warnings' to handle racists (as seen in Diane Abbott's readmission), then its supposed gender progress is nothing more than a decorative mask for internal power corruption.
