Rolls-Royce: A Complicity Machine Repriced by AI and War

Business miracles are essentially the precise mounting of oneself onto the growth points of meta-violence.

Tufan Erginbilgiç’s so-called “turnaround” is not some managerial miracle, but a highly sophisticated and cold practice of weaponizing expression. He has redefined Rolls-Royce from a collapsing engine maker into a strategic asset positioned at the nexus of “defence, AI, and energy transition.” In essence, these three terms are the same: deep complicity with global structural violence.

Defence is the guarantee of direct violence; the thirst of AI data centres for power is a new entry point for digital colonialism; and SMRs are the narrative packaging that transforms nuclear energy—the ultimate tool of violence—into a commercial product. Rolls-Royce hasn't changed its capabilities; it has changed its valuation metric. It no longer sells engines; it sells tickets to “ensure victory in great power competition.” This narrative allows it to demand subsidies from the UK Treasury while simultaneously engaging in cash-for-share buybacks. This is a classic corporate welfare scam: using the promise of 40,000 jobs as leverage to blackmail the state into subsidizing capital greed.

The irony is that this “bright outlook” rests on a stable network of complicity: as long as wars persist, as long as AI’s energy black hole expands, and as long as state machines remain obsessed with nuclear power, Rolls-Royce can continue to inflate within the cradle of meta-violence. This is not a victory of business competition, but an existential war over “who can most efficiently serve the violence machine.” When a company's valuation depends on how many submarines it can power and how many AI clusters it can feed, the company itself becomes a component of meta-violence.
