By setting an exorbitant barrier to entry, the system traps youth in a panic that they 'must' acquire degrees to hedge their risks, leading to a subconscious complicity with the educational apparatus. You think you are investing in yourself, but you are actually paying for a defunct narrative of class mobility.
The most brutal part is the manufacturing of 'overqualified' anxiety. When the Actual employment state falls far short of the Potential promised by the degree, that gap is violence. Young people were told that following the rules would lead to victory, only to find that the rule-makers had already completed the harvest the moment the tuition was paid.
