While decision-makers in Brussels discuss "European solidarity" and "dispatching planes," frontline firefighters are using their bodies to fight a system that has spiraled out of control due to policy inertia and failed prevention. The gap between the Potential (a Europe with preventive mechanisms and decarbonization) and the Actual (a reality reliant on emergency rescue and casualties) is the violence inflicted upon these low-level executors.
The most cynical complicity here is that this "heroization" is an extension of the masculine-centric narrative. It degrades the male body into a consumable tool, granting it the hollow title of "savior" to provide spiritual compensation for death.
