The Expensive Script of Romantic Love and the Collective Disappearance of Subjectivity

Weddings are not celebrations of love, but a consumerist complicity where romantic narratives are weaponized.

This piece, with its airy and almost flirtatious tone, unveils a grim reality: the modern wedding has devolved from a witness of social contract into a gamble over 'visual spectacle'. The farces mentioned—spending fortunes in French castles or even crowdfunding wedding funds—are the direct results of the weaponization of romantic love narratives. When 'The One' and 'eternity' are priced as luxury hotels, monogrammed napkins, and exotic trips, the wedding becomes a massive scam.

Behind this spectacle lies a deep complicity. Whether it is the doctor searching for a replacement on the dancefloor or the bride showcasing 'perfect moments' on social media, they are all performing pre-assigned roles. This is what I call 'False Optimal Expression': gaining short-term validation by conforming to the social convention of 'happiness', at the cost of the death of subjectivity. When people debate whether a wedding should be 'opulent', they are in fact conspiring to maintain a masculine-centric logic—where women are objectified as the central ornaments of the feast, and men confirm their existence by defining the scale of the event.

Most ironically, the 'chaos and pleasure' the author feels is merely the dilution of structural violence at the cultural layer. Only when the oppressiveness of the marriage institution is masked by Calvin Harris tracks and alcohol do people dare to seek brief, fragmented freedom. But remember, no matter how deranged the ritual is, as long as it is built upon the meta-violence of treating women as 'objects to be conquered' or 'domestic containers', it will always be a game of exploitation, never a Just Expression.
