食谱里的幽灵与被抹除的母职Ghosts in the Recipe: The Erasure of Maternal Experience

哲学 文化层 · 结构层 The New York Times ↗ 2026-07-28 § 链接
即使在最中立的食谱里,女性的经验也仅被允许作为“私人注脚”存在。
Even in a neutral recipe, feminine experience is only permitted to exist as a 'private footnote'.

This NYT zucchini recipe is structurally efficient: quantified, stepped, and depersonalized. This "standardization" is a classic masculine-centric narrative, stripping cooking of its lived experience and converting it into a set of executable instructions. In this narrative, the creation of food is reduced to a function of oil temperature and time, while the expressions of body and memory that give food its soul are completely excised.

Interestingly, actual humans only appear in the Comments. One user notes, "This is how my mother cooked zucchini," but notice that this maternal experience has no seat in the main text. Structurally, feminine culinary knowledge is defined as "informal," "private," or "domestic," allowed only to cling to the standardized masculine logic as a footnote. This is a textbook example of cultural violence: by defining what is "standard," the survival wisdom women accumulate in the private sphere is dismissed as "trivial deviation."

This complicity is deeply covert. When we praise a recipe for being "simple and efficient," we are actually validating an industrialized narrative that strips away the labor of nurturing and emotion. The female subjectivity in the kitchen is erased, leaving only quantified ingredients and commanded actions. "Home taste" becomes a replaceable plug-in rather than a cornerstone of existence.
