Chip Plants Evacuate While Shopping Malls Collapse

The priority of resource allocation defines who is treated as an 'asset' and who is mere 'collateral'.

In the wake of a 7.1-magnitude earthquake, the most decisive actions reported are the evacuations of TSMC, Sony, and Fujifilm. In the logic of capital, these employees are 'assets'—precision components maintaining the global supply chain. Meanwhile, the collapse of the second floor at Aeon Mall traps countless nameless individuals in rubble. This contrast precisely reveals the mechanism of structural violence: in a crisis, the system prioritizes the protection of productivity over the protection of human life.

The shopping mall, as an altar of consumerism, presents a cynical irony. People consume here, seeking a carefully curated 'lifestyle,' but when the physical biological wall—the structural integrity of the building—fails, these conditioned individuals are instantly reduced to passive objects awaiting rescue. They are trapped, while the world checks if nuclear plants are stable and if chip fabs are operational.

This is a textbook case of the gap between Potential and Actual. In a seismically active nation, the Potential should be extreme public safety redundancy. The Actual, however, is that the speed of corporate evacuation far outpaces the grasp of civilian casualties. This delta in speed is the most brutal form of violence.
