这种回避是元暴力（meta violence）的典型体现。政治家们在野火中争论 net zero 的成本，在北海最后一点原油面前斤斤计较，这套叙事的核心是：将一个结构性的生存危机，伪装成一个关于“成本”和“效率”的经济博弈。通过定义什么是“现实的”，他们成功地让大众在 cultural layer（文化层）上接受了“未来尚不可知”的假象，从而掩盖了他们在 structural layer（结构层）上与资本共谋的真相。
最讽刺的是，那些在剧本中被描绘成“反科学疯子”的宗教原教旨主义者，与那些在现实中通过金钱撕裂社会的政治精英，其实在共谋同一件事：通过制造恐惧和分裂，夺取对“什么是事实”的解释权。当一个社会习惯于将气候危机视为“预测”而非“现状”时，这种认知入口的控制就完成了。政治家们不需要预测未来，因为他们本身就是那个将 Potential 与 Actual 差额最大化的暴力机器。
Zoe Williams notes that TV writers are better at predicting the future than politicians, but this is a false premise. Writers capture the Potential, while politicians manage the Actual. When writers script extreme heatwaves, far-right riots, and billionaire death fantasies, they are describing a logic chain already in motion. The "cluelessness" or "averted gaze" of politicians is not a failure of foresight, but a form of highly precise weaponized expression.
This avoidance is a manifestation of meta violence. By debating the cost of net zero amidst wildfires or squabbling over the last drops of North Sea oil, they frame a structural existential crisis as a mere economic gamble over "cost" and "efficiency." By defining what is "realistic," they force the public at the cultural layer to accept the illusion that the future is unpredictable, effectively masking their complicity with capital at the structural layer.
The irony is that the religious fundamentalists portrayed as "anti-science nutjobs" and the political elites tearing society apart for profit are conspiring toward the same end: seizing the power to define "fact" through the manufacture of fear and division. When a society is conditioned to view the climate crisis as a "prediction" rather than a "present reality," the control of the cognitive entry point is complete. Politicians don't need to predict the future; they are the very machine maximizing the gap between Potential and Actual.
