Roster Dating:一场关于客体化与风险对冲的伪进步博弈Roster Dating: A Pseudo-Progressive Game of Objectification and Risk Hedging
Roster Dating is essentially an objectification operation that 'componentizes' potential partners. One person provides emotional value, another offers artistic taste, and another handles the financial burden. This act of dismantling a human being into a set of specific functional needs is not a 'journey of personal discovery,' but a classic risk-hedging strategy within an existential war. When an individual stops seeking a connection with another complete personality and instead builds a 'supply list' to ensure all needs are covered, this expression has completely mutated into the erasure of the other's subjectivity.
It is amusing how this narrative is packaged as a 'conscious choice' and a 'growth path' for Gen Z. This is a textbook example of the weaponisation of expression: recasting fragmented relationships—born of insecurity and an inability to commit—as 'efficient' resource management. In the wake of the masculine-centric narrative, this logic is an internalisation of the patriarchy—treating emotional objects as a replaceable resource pool and reducing the cost of a single failure by increasing the sample size. This is not searching for love; it is managing an emotional asset portfolio.
The most ironic part is the complicity involved. This mode of dating often relies on a tacit silence, or an arrogant assumption that 'the other person must be doing the same.' In this field of complicity, honesty is replaced by 'not lying,' while Just Expressions—where both parties transparently confirm their needs as equals—are dismissed as inefficient or mood-killing. When someone labels a partner as 'the rich one' or 'the devoted one,' the other person's existence in that relationship is stripped away, leaving only a tag.
Who is the ultimate winner in this game? Those who can maintain the roster without paying the dating costs. Within this structural inequality, Roster Dating becomes a tool for the powerful to screen and consume the vulnerable. The so-called 'letting go of expectations' is actually the powerful unilaterally declaring they will no longer bear the responsibility of commitment, while the vulnerable, in their anxiety of being chosen, willingly become a functional component on someone else's list.
