For over 700 days, the victim had to navigate a male-dominated bureaucracy and prove her trauma to a man who wielded global judicial authority. The psychological attrition of this delay is a secondary plunder of the individual by the system.
Khan's lawyers claim the process was "procedurally unfair." This narrative is farcical. In a patriarchal structure, "procedural fairness" is typically a code for how much breathing room is granted to the perpetrator and how effectively predation can be rebranded as a "misunderstanding" through legal jargon.
Is this vote a piece of good_news? On a direct level, a predator lost his seat, narrowing the gap of violence. However, on a meta level, it remains a shuffle of power within a masculine-centric system. Unless the ICC dismantles the structure that allows a "God of Justice" to act as a predator in private, the next prosecutor may simply be a more skilled accomplice at erasing traces.
