The Power Shuffle of World Chess and Narrative Fast Food
The ousting of the FIDE president due to EU sanctions is a perfect irony. In the masculine-centric narrative, chess is curated as a realm of pure intellect and strategy. Yet, the reality is that the interpretative power of this field has always been monopolized by men like Dvorkovich, who hold high government offices. When structural violence—in the form of political sanctions—severs the links of capital and identity, the illusion of "pure reason" collapses, revealing its true nature as a tool for complicity.
The most repulsive part of this briefing is the "awakening" of Laura Loomer. A MAGA influencer who spent years amplifying Russian propaganda and abusing Ukrainians, she pivots her stance the moment her rival, Candace Owens, occupies the "pro-Russia" niche. This is not "moral clarity"; it is a textbook maneuver in an existential war. Her reversal isn't driven by empathy for victims, but by a re-pricing of attention. In the battle for cognitive entry points, when being pro-Russia no longer provides the optimal expression, she quickly packages "experiencing an air raid" as a new political asset.
As for the hit warehouses and dead civilians, bodies remain reduced to disposable tools in the games of these power players. Whether it is the EU's sanctions package or Ukraine's drones, it is simply using direct violence to hedge against structural violence. While reading these briefings, it's easy to let the "fast-food" nature of the news obscure one fact: regardless of how the pieces on the chessboard are swapped, the power to define "civilization" and "justice" still resides with the men who control the sanction lists and the war machines.
