This is structural violence.
There is a cruel irony in the setting: the Miami Yacht Club, a fixture of elite and "civilized" nautical education. While children were taught to navigate the winds, they were instantaneously crushed by a massive, industrial violence machine controlled by a male operator. This contrast exposes a specific complicity: industrial efficiency and commercial operational priorities always outweigh the safety of vulnerable individuals. While the captain sought dopamine on his phone, he wasn't just ignoring the road; he was executing an industry taboo—the belief that as long as no accident happens, a blocked view is acceptable.
This objectification of individual lives is a textbook extension of masculine-centric narrative within the industrial sphere—massive machinery, efficient transport, and the illusion of total control. In this structural logic, the "light" and "fragile" sailboats are preset as disposable noise. A ten-year sentence may appease anger, but as long as that obscuring structure remains and the arrogance toward individual life is complicit, the gap of potential violence is never truly closed.
