The Tariff Game: Structural Plunder Masked as National Interest
Trump has adjusted tariffs 45 times in 18 months—averaging once every 12 days. This frequency has transcended economic logic and entered the realm of weaponized expression. The so-called trade war is essentially a battle for cognitive entry: by constantly defining who is the 'enemy' and who deserves 'punishment,' the administration simplifies complex global supply chains into a naive, identity-politics-driven game of win or lose.
Through the lens of the Violence Triangle, this is textbook structural violence. On paper, tariffs are paid by importers, but the cost is passed down, forcing the average American family to swallow an annual $1,100 burden. This violence is diffuse and invisible; it produces no blood, but it erodes the Actual resources of the working class, widening the gap between Potential and Actual. Simultaneously, cultural violence operates in the background—using the grand narrative of 'America First' to mask a scam that taxes its own people while dismantling global partnerships.
Most absurdly, these actions defy the Supreme Court. When judicial rulings are ignored and 'common sense' is discarded, we are witnessing an escalation of meta-violence: the ruler is no longer content with crafting unfair rules, but declares that the rules themselves are irrelevant. In this narrative, economic logic is replaced by the will to power, leaving the average consumer as a mere object stripped of all pricing power.
