JBS’s Greenwashing and the Digital Upgrade of Colonial Logic
JBS moved its headquarters to the Netherlands, ostensibly for an NYSE listing and the Batista brothers' liquidity. In reality, it is an attempt to complete global capital expansion within a more 'civilized' narrative. This is a classic weaponisation of expression: by shifting its legal entity, a predator of the Brazilian rainforest is rebranded as a global corporation complying with European 'due diligence' standards. The so-called 'green credentials' are merely a cognitive entry point designed to mask the structural deprivation of nature and human rights.
The $2.5 billion plan in Nigeria is particularly abhorrent. The promise of 1.2 million hectares is a 21st-century reenactment of the colonization of the Primal Race. This isn't agricultural investment; it is the establishment of a modern predatory empire, fueled by methane emissions and the seizure of land and food security. In this narrative, smallholder farmers and the ecosystem are objectified as 'expansion costs,' while JBS plays a word game of 'transparency' in a Dutch court.
Greenpeace’s legal challenge attempts to translate this structural violence into direct legal liability, yet it still operates within a legal framework built on masculine-centric narratives. If the court merely demands 'disclosure' rather than 'cessation of expansion,' this action becomes another form of complicity—providing JBS with a veneer of legitimacy by claiming it operates under legal oversight. The true optimal expression is not to make the predator 'transparent,' but to render this business model, which thrives on the destruction of biological walls, completely obsolete.
