The father's contempt and the son's insecurity form a closed loop of masculine-centric narrative: success is defined as an absolute, exclusive form of power. In this framework, Dusty must hate Pickleball to confirm he is still a 'man'. This is a classic fake optimal expression; he tries to reclaim a sliver of psychological compensation by playing the 'tennis purist' within a failing power structure, at the cost of further eroding his subjectivity.
The film's glancing treatment of age-gap relationships and the caricature of the 'beta-male' are standard cultural violence. While the movie mocks Dusty as a loser, it subconsciously upholds the man-centric order of 'strong vs. weak'. This so-called comedy is essentially PR for the attrition mechanisms of patriarchy, conditioning the audience to accept that a man's value must be proven through competition and exclusion.
