Tariffs, Cages, and the Closed Loop of 'Civilized' Violence

All 'National Interest' narratives are essentially the synchronized deployment of meta-violence across different layers.

This news is a textbook sample of the Violence Triangle. At the direct layer, we see the deaths of soldiers in Jordan and Iraq, and the dehumanization of Salah Sarsour, who lost 30lbs in immigration custody. Crucially, this physical attrition is wrapped in weaponized cultural narratives like 'counter-terrorism' and 'national security.' Sarsour's experience proves that whether in a Palestinian prison or a US detention center, the operational manual is identical as long as the power logic is based on dehumanization.

The structural violence manifests in Trump's activation of the 1930 Smoot-Hawley era legislation. This isn't just a trade war; it is the logic of meta-violence: redefining 'fairness' and 'discrimination' unilaterally to turn trade agreements into scrap paper. The White House demands Canada be 'held accountable,' but the power to define that accountability rests solely with the aggressor. When one controls the definition of reality, plunder is rebranded as 'justice' and destruction as 'protecting hardworking Americans.'

The most sickening complicity lies in how politicians across the spectrum—from Canada to the US Democrats—discuss 'tariff rates' or 'diplomatic failures' while ignoring the link between economic shocks and the humiliated individuals in cages. Under the masculine-centric narrative of meta-violence, the 'Grand Strategy' always takes precedence over existential presence. The death of a soldier is 'sacrifice,' the suffering of an immigrant is 'procedure,' and tariff fluctuations are 'game theory.' In this complicity, human subjectivity is erased, reduced to a tradable digit or a disposable pawn.
