The Female Body as a Political Sacrifice
A 28-year-old man murdered a 78-year-old former MP. In Galtung's Violence Triangle, this is a textbook case of direct violence: the body destroyed, life terminated. However, the real alarm lies in the emerging narrative. The CPS chief prosecutor swiftly pivoted the investigation toward "potential political or terrorist connections," meaning this murder is being rapidly converted from an act of male-on-female violence into an ideological war.
This is a classic weaponisation of expression. When a woman—even one who held power—is killed, and the narrative focus shifts to political motives, the essence of the violence is diluted. The female body once again becomes a vessel, used to carry male political gambling, terrorist narratives, or party strife. Under the operation of meta-violence, the public is led to ask "why did he kill for politics?" rather than "why was a woman subjected to severe physical harm by a young man in her own home?"
This complicity in narrative is subtle: by defining the victim as a "former MP" or "party spokesperson," her biological identity is overwritten by her political status. Once this case is framed as a "political assassination," it enters the logic of masculine-centric narrative—the collision and replacement of power. In such a grand narrative, the torn flesh of a woman becomes merely a symbol to prove "political radicalism." This is the cruelty of meta-violence: it not only takes a life but also seizes the right to explain the nature of that violence after death.
