In this existential war, informal workers occupy a position of absolute disadvantage. Lacking employment security, they are forced to choose between 'having their bodies burned' and 'starving.' This structural violence is surgically precise: it leverages the baseline of survival to compel individuals to maintain productivity in lethal environments. Meanwhile, employers complete the total extraction of labor by denying compensation and wages.
The most brutal complicity occurs along the gender dimension. The stories of Laxmi and Kumkumari reveal the double colonization of women as the Primal Race: they endure extreme heat at construction sites and then return to a home 'like an oven' to perform unpaid care work. Their bodies are split—one part consumed by capital at work, the other by tradition at home. Do not be deceived by the phrase 'climate change.' Climate is the trigger, but the real killer is the masculine-centric power structure that permits workers to be treated like livestock under the sun without shade or water. If a society can legitimize the exploitation of 550 million people by labeling them as the 'informal sector,' that society is itself a field of meta-violence. In such a realm, the bodies of the weak are not living; they are being burned as fuel.
