When our attention is focused on "where the smoke comes from" and "which city is most affected," we are unconsciously conspiring to accept a logic where wildfires and pollution are mere natural accidents, rather than structural products of climatic collapse, resource plunder, and failed environmental governance. This narrative seizes the cognitive entry point, allowing people to forget the critical question: Who profits from ecological destruction? Whose right to breathe is being prioritized?
True good_news would be about the forced stripping of emission rights or the legal enforcement of ecological restoration, not a colorful map telling you how much PM2.5 you are inhaling right now. The thrill of "real-time tracking" is essentially applying a layer of technocratic blush to a desperate existential reality, keeping the Actual spinning under a fake guidance of Potential, while the real structural violence remains invisible within the smoke.
